Summer Into Fall: Look to Your Closet Before You Shop
That first hint of fall can make it very tempting to start shopping. New sweaters, new boots, a new jacket… and suddenly your cart is full before you’ve even looked at what’s already in your closet.
Before you shop for fall, take a look at what you already own.
A good piece isn’t necessarily a “summer piece” or a “fall piece.” The best pieces have a little range. They can shift with the season simply by changing how you wear them.
Take a denim dress I bought this summer. It caught my eye because of its beautiful shape—the corset-like seaming creates a flattering waist before the skirt flares into a full, flowing silhouette. And despite being denim, the fabric is incredibly light and fluid.
Right now, while it’s still warm, I can wear it on its own with a great necklace. As the weather cools, I can add boots, a blazer or another layer and give it a completely different feel.
That’s the kind of versatility I look for when building a wardrobe.
So before you fill your cart with fall clothes, ask yourself:
What am I still loving?
What can I wear a little differently as the weather changes?
What am I actually missing?
You may find that your closet has more possibilities than you thought.
And if it does need a few new pieces, you’ll have a much better idea of what’s worth adding—and what will actually work with what you already own.
Fall doesn’t have to mean starting over. Sometimes a few good tweaks are all you need.
